There was a time that the idea of a portable computer meant that there was room small enough to fit in standard A, and only took one person to move it to. Today, people who want the performance of a computer, but scaled to a size that in a standard briefcase fit a few different ways. For those who want to perform the same computing power as their desktop computer, a laptop is a great mobile solution. For those who value portability over power is on, a netbook be more in line with whatThey are looking for.

Acer AOD250-1383 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

Acer AOD250-1383 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
I purchased this on sale around Christmas (for 0) but it’s still the same netbook. I got it for someone who had a Dell that was four years old and beginning to turn into sludge. First a few things — I’m very computer savvy and looked around for a good two weeks to finally decide on a netbook and I was specifically looking for something that could surf the web and use MS Office if need be. I didn’t need to purchase anything heavy or something with a DVD/Blu-Ray drive. This computer is awesome, just make sure you know what you’re getting before you purchase. It comes with Windows 7 Starter as the operating system. If you want to upgrade to the full edition, it’s going to cost you. If you do want to upgrade, I suggest looking at upgrading the memory to at least 2GB and maybe the graphics card (but that’s entirely up to you). It comes with a lot of hard drive space and is quick to load up (especially if you were using something running Vista -it’ll be a big change). My own laptop is a Sony Vaio Z series and is lighter than the netbook, but not by much. The netbook is smooth and speedy and comes with three USB ports. This is super convenient if you’re using an external HD, an external DVD ROM, and have an ipod plugged in or something. You don’t get the full version of Office, and unless you really need everything on it, I think it’s better to download Open Office (from [...]) and use that instead. It’s free and isn’t as much a type of bloatware as office can be (it takes up a lot less memory). I’d recommend this to anyone looking to move to something more simple that needs something long lasting. The battery life on this little guy lasts at least 7-8 hours normally. Two thumbs up from me!

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Sapphire Blue Review

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Sapphire Blue
Awesome little workhorse of a netbook and still going strong after 15 months of daily use. The light weight and small size is great for taking it everywhere I go. When I need more display room for my work, it’s a snap to connect the Aspire One to a large size monitor using the VGA port. Quiet fan and cool running, long lasting battery. Keep the temp files and reg clean and it will continue to run as fast as the first day it booted up. The price has dropped and I’ll be buying more Aspire Ones for my home network.

Acer AOD250-1070 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life Review

Acer AOD250-1070 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life
I’ve been considering buying a netbook for several weeks. I’ve read all the reviews, and came to the conclusion that Acer was probably the best brand for the price. But I wasn’t sold on the Windows 7 Starter OS. Then I found this model with the 6 cell battery and the XP operating system. I bought it today with expected arrival on Wednesday. I’ll update my review after I receive the product and have a chance to put it through its paces. Hope I’ll be able to maintain the 5 Star rating like the other reviewers.

Update
I’d been trying to talk my self out of this purchase but finally decided to take the plunge when I saw the red color go on sale for 0. Product was delivered right on time. I was excited to get it set up so we could use it in the family room to check email and to browse the net when TV got boring. The trouble started when I had difficultly connecting to my home network. Not a problem, I should be able to contact Acer customer service for help, right? Wrong. They were entirely unhelpful. Thankfully I was able to contact a friend who was able to resolve the problem over the phone for me.
.
I like the product and feel that I made a wise purchasing decision. But I was sorely tempted to return the netbook for a refund after my experience with Acer customer service. Hopefully I won’t need to contact them again.
.
I’d recommend this item to anyone who is looking for a notebook. It is stylish, very light, and surprisingly quick. And the red color is nice. Since I wanted a notebook with XP rather than Win7, this fit the bill nicely. As always, Amazon has an incredible selection and provided quick shipping.

Acer AO532h-2406 10.1-Inch Garnet Red Netbook - Up to 10 Hours of Battery Life Review

Acer AO532h-2406 10.1-Inch Garnet Red Netbook - Up to 10 Hours of Battery Life
After researching economical netbooks exhaustively, including HP, Dell, Gateway, Compaq etc I found this to be the best bet for buck! Amazon shipped it quickly and everything was as stated. I do also highly recommend the memory upgrade to 2GB. The recommended Crucial memory upgrade that Amazon suggests DOES work in this unit and takes less than 5 minutes to install with only a small screwdriver needed. I find it does make a difference especially running memory intensive programs. Windows 7 Starter is limited but it comes on almost all netbooks. There are freeware programs out there that will let you change backgrounds etc. People complained about movie quality. I use windows media player to watch movies that I have downloaded from Amazon. Their average -15 and many of them you can install on multiple units. The movie quality is excellent!!! Internet browsing is good. IE works, Firefox does but also has a few hiccups. Google Chrome I’ve found is best because its simple and doesn’t over tax the unit. For the $$$$ this is hard to beat!!!

Acer Aspire One AO751h-1080 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life Review

Acer Aspire One AO751h-1080 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life
When I bought this product, I knew I would be putting Windows7 on it. I think its perfect for what it was designed for, which is surfing the net, email and total portability. All of which it does with stunning perfection. The only thing I wish it had was a slightly better graphic accelerator. It plays video well and thats exactly what I expected. I did purchase a larger battery first off. Now I can easily get 9+ hours out of it without recharging. Its small, lite, bright screen (which is slightly larger than most) large hard drive and 2gigs of ram. The multi-card slot and 3usb ports really make it handy. For anyone that has need for total portability and reasonably powerful computing, this is the machine for you. It should serve well students, teachers, professional on the go and those that just want to sit at the local internet cafe and drink there latte while “facebooking” or “twittering” which seems to be the fastest growing application for this type of machine. Buy it, you’ll love it. P.S. I already have “Windows 7″ on the way. I cant wait to see the much anticipated improvements that this (according to all in the know) will don my machine with.
